Moon - 10/12/25

Sun Oct 12 2025

This is the first time that I’ve imaged the moon in at least a year! I had some extra time this morning since my primary target was behind trees when I woke up and I decided to try the moon but wasn’t really prepared hence only one frame. I may try again soon with my DSLR and 600mm lens soon to do some stacking!

About this object

Type

Natural Satellite

The Moon is Earth's only natural satellite, orbiting at an average distance of about 384,000 kilometres. Its heavily cratered surface, maria, and mountain ranges shift in appearance with the changing phase, when the low angle of sunlight along the terminator throws surface detail into sharp relief.
