M106 / NGC 4258 — The Splendid Galaxy
Sat Mar 18 2023
Messier 106 is a large, splendid spiral galaxy in the constellation Canes Venatici. Beyond its bright spiral arms it hides a secret: extra 'anomalous' arms of glowing gas driven by a supermassive black hole feeding at its core. It sits roughly 24 million light-years away.
